Wiki Workers United!

Wiki Workers United (WWU) is a solidarity union for full-time employees, temporary employees, vendors, and contractors working as individual contributors at the Wikimedia Foundation (WMF). As a solidarity union our interest and protection spans all countries where WMF workers reside. We are committed to the principle of "nothing about us without us" and seek to elevate the voices of all workers.

Do you want a union?

The WWU is seeking stronger labor protections and greater influence over Wikimedia Foundation operations and business practices by establishing a collective bargaining unit in the form of a labor union recognized by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) and the WMF. One of the platform goals of this collective bargaining unit will be to assist in establishing additional officially recognized units under the WWU umbrella, ideally with the WMF agreeing to voluntarily recognize all such units that come forth.

With a union we can:

Connect with fellow staff to learn about each others concerns and support each other through mutual aid.
Decide as a group what concerns to address through collective bargaining. These concerns are not limited to salaries and basic working conditions. They can extend to most business practices in use at the WMF.
Safely provide input to the leadership team without fear of being fired.
Work together with leadership and the wider Wikimedia community to fulfill the audacious vision of creating a world where every single human being can freely share in the sum of all knowledge.

Safety note on signing the union authorization card

The union authorization card form allows you to change your answer at any time, and you will receive a confirmation of your answers sent to the email you provide in the form. For your safety, please do not enter your work email into the form. Instead, please use a personal email account.
Signing this card indicates your interest in the union, but you are not legally protected by the union until it forms. Signing the card to support the union now does not mean you have to vote for the union later. You are free to change your mind.
This card is confidential between you, the union, and the US National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). It will not be shared with WMF management. WMF management cannot ask to confirm whether you signed this card.
