Our Vision

Supporting the people who sustain free knowledge.

We believe another kind of global workplace is possible.

One rooted in dignity, transparency, participation, solidarity, and shared stewardship across borders, languages, and cultures.

We believe the values that make Wikimedia possible should also live within the workplace itself.

And we believe that when workers are empowered to participate fully in the institutions they help shape, the future of free knowledge becomes more resilient for everyone.

Our Mission

Wiki Workers United (WWU) is a global solidarity union of Wikimedia Foundation workers building a workplace rooted in voice, dignity, transparency, equity, and shared stewardship.

We believe the workers who support the platforms, infrastructure, programs, fundraising, partnerships, and services that enable Wikimedia communities to create and share free knowledge should have a meaningful voice in shaping the future of our work and institution.

We organize because healthy institutions depend on healthy workplaces. Worker participation, trust, accountability, and sustainable working conditions strengthen the Wikimedia Foundation, the Wikimedia movement, and the long-term future of free knowledge itself.

WWU is grounded in the principle of “nothing about us without us.” We are building durable structures for worker voice, democratic participation, mutual support, and global solidarity across the Wikimedia workforce.

We are not an outside entity. We are Wikimedia workers.

Together, we are building a stronger Wikimedia movement from within.
